Waipa Multi-Purpose Hale

Deep In the precious Hanalei Bay, below Lumahai, Waipa Foundation works to maintain the Hawaiian agricultural heritage and conserve the natural resources of Kauai. Palms Hawaii Architecture is privileged to work with Kamehameha Schools and the Foundation envisioning a sustainable campus concept for the community. Together with Townscape and Belt Collins, we developed the infrastructure for the campus and the initial Multi-purpose center. This small building hosts small classes and community meetings with office and kitchen facilities. It is designed to bring the outside in by daylighting and opening three of four corners to invite the magnificent Waipa valley. This initial structure sets the tone for a village of care, discovery and sharing.
